Licence Appeal Tribunal designated as appeal body for cannabis licences/authorizations

Tribunals: License Appeal Tribunal (LAT), Safety, Licensing Appeals and Standards Tribunals Ontario (SLASTO)

On October 17, 2018, Ontario’s provincial legislature passed the Cannabis Licence Act, 2018 (CLA). This Act sets out the legal structure for private cannabis retail in Ontario and gives the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) the authority to licence, regulate and enforce the sale of recreational cannabis through private run stores in Ontario.

Types of Licences under the CLA

The CLA establishes the following three types of licences/authorizations:

  1. Retail Operator Licence
  2. Retail Store Authorization
  3. Cannabis Retail Manager Licence

What this means for CLA Appeals

The Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT) has been designated as the appeal body for the three types of licences/authorizations.. More detailed information regarding these matters will be posted to our website shortly.
